INTRODUCTION

I know I know, there are a ton of egg sucking leech patterns out there already. But fish are used to seeing all those. This fly has a very streamlined look in the water and the belly flash is a very nice addition. The upward pointing hook prevents snagging. Because the rabbit strip is pinned on the hook it virtually never fouls. The movement the rabbit has in the water is second to none. Try tying one up, I think you just might like it!

Materials List

Hook: preferably a straight eye streamer hook #10-1/0

Thread: 6/0 to match the egg color

Wing: Zonker strip

Flash: Angel-hair

LETS GET TYING!!

Step 1 - Wrap only the very first little bit of the shank with thread.

Step 2 - Clip off some flash and tie it in. You want it to extent a ways beyond the bend. Now I’m using angel hair flash, but just about anything will do. But don’t go overboard with it.

Step 3 - Take the fly and flip it over so the hook point is facing up. Select a zonker strip about one and a half times the length of the hook shank. Tie in in right near the front. Make sure you torque it down good.

Step 4 - Select some chenille or yarn and tie it in. Try different colors. People always seem to think it has to be pink. I’ve seen chartreuse, orange, and strangely enough even white work well.

Step 5 - Take the egg material and wrap it up into a ball shape just in behind the eye. Leave yourself enough room to tie a head though. Sometimes this step takes a little practice. If you make the egg just a little smaller than you think it should be it often works out just fine. Also when you’re wrapping the egg, make sure it’s tight. Nothings worse than getting the fly all done and having the egg slough off. For overkill you can even add a little head cement to the spot before you wrap it up. Overkills good in my book!

Step 6 - Build a nice even head on the fly, whip-finish it, and dab it with cement.

Step 7 - Take the fly out of the vice and turn it over. Grab the rabbit strip and poke the hook through it. Leave yourself a little room in the strip to do it.

Finished fly!
Give this little mutant a try. After all the world needs a few more egg-sucking leeches in it!
