MATERIALS NEEDED:

Hook: Daiichi 2451 Size 1
Thread: Danville, Flat Waxed, Nylon, Black
Weight: Optional
Body: Orange, Red and Purple Blood Quill Maribou
Wing: Flashbou
TYING INSTRUCTIONS

Step One:
Hook Size should depend on the water and personal preference.
Attach thread just in front of the hook tip and cover the front of the hook shank with a layer of thread.

Step Two:
Tie in one piece of orange maribou by its tip, being careful not to break the maribou.

Step Three:
Wrap forward toward the maribou tip to secure in place.
Cut excess and wrap cleanly
Leave the thread where the maribou will stop palmering

Step Four:
Using fingers (or scissors), fold the maribou fibers so that the tips touch each other. This will allow the maribou to palmer evenly and not on top of each other.

Step Five:
Palmer maribou forward so it covers 1/3 of the hook shank. You may need more than one piece depending on the size of your maribou

Step Six:
Repeat steps 4 and 5 with Red maribou

Step Seven:
Palmer red maribou forward so it covers the middle 1/3 of the hook shank in front of the orange maribou. You may need more than one piece depending on the size of your maribou.

Step Eight:
Add 8-10 pieces of flashbou the same length as the body.
Flasbou should be added between the red and purple layers (see step 9)

Step Nine:
Palmer purple maribou forward so it covers the final 1/3 of the hook shank in front of the red maribou. You may need more than one piece depending on the size of your maribou.
Step Ten:
Build a nice, large head
Whip finish, cement and you’re done!
Some of the more popular patterns are:
Showgirls (pink & purple)
Porn Stars(green & purple – my personal variation!)
Popsicles (duh)
Candy Canes (pink & red)
Snowflakes(another variation– all white)
Notes:
These maribou patterns work extremely well for all types of salmon. They’ve proven to be exceptional performers with chum and silver salmon. The maribou comes alive in the water and seems irresistible to even the most tight-lipped fish! There are many variations of this fly. You can add barbell eyes, cone heads and different color maribou to suit your needs.
