INTRODUCTION

NO INTRO NEEDED!!! THIS IS ONE HELL OF A GOOD SOCKEYE FLY

Materials List

Hook: Standard salmon hook #10-2

Thread: 6/0

Body: Wrapped pearl flashabou

Wing: Chartreuse Calf-tail

Hackle: Chartreuse saddle hackle

LETS GET TYING!!

Step 1 - Insert the hook into the vice and coat the shank with thread.

Step 2 - Tie in a small bunch of flashabou near the rear of the hook

Step 3 - Wrap the flashabou up to the eye of the hook and tie it off

Step 4 - This step is not completely necessary, but it certainly helps to make a more sturdy fly. Take a drop or two of head cement or softex and coat the flashabou body with it.

Step 5 - Select a very sparse portion of calf tail and tie it in. Again please let me reiterate, a VERY SPARSE portion of calf tail, we‘re talking probably 20-25 stands…….

Step 6 - Select a saddle hackle feather and tie it in.

Step 7 - Now wrap the feather one time around the shank and tie it off. You’re looking essentially for a sparse collar of feather fibers.

Step 8 - After you have tied off the hackle feather, trim the excess, build a small head, whip-finish, and dab on a little glue.

The fly is done!! The sparseness of the fly is something that reds seem to like. Color is a tough one though. You may want this in several colors and indeed several sizes to match the mood of the fish on any particular day.

Good Luck!!!
